Classroom Managment

Ms. Cress’s Behavior Management Plan
(Sample)
“School must be a safe and protected environment, where a student can come to learn without fear.” The First Days of School p.151

Classroom Guidelines
1.  We listen carefully.
2.  We are kind.
3.  We keep things neat.

“The function of a rule is to prevent or encourage behavior by clearly stating student expectations.” p. 145

Our classroom rules are simple.  Our goal is to be like Jesus.

Consequences
It is important to realize that our actions have consequences.  What we do not have results.

Poor Behavior
1.  Warning. Students get a warning if they decided to go against classroom guidelines. Students maybe asked to take a timeout to think.
2.  Pull Cards.  If a student decides to continue his behavior they will need to pull a color card.  The card colors are blue, green yellow, and red.  At the end of the day a student will take home a note with his color of the day.
3.  Conference. If a student is continually making bad decisions there will be a parent-teacher-student meeting.  Together they will try to find a plan to make better decisions.
4.  Principle.  If the student decided to continue the poor behavior they will have a meeting with the principle.

Zones
Green- Free to move around and
talk. “Noisy time.”
Yellow-Use whispers and quiet
voices. “Quiet time.”
Red- Eyes forward, mouths closed,
listening carefully. “Silent time.”

Good Behavior
Compliments

Tangible rewards

“The research shows that the most effective schools are those with well-ordered environments and high academic expectations.” p. 143

Sample Parent Communication
Dear Parents,
It's hard to believe that the beginning of a new school year is here!  This year will be full of exciting learning experiences.  I believe that academic success is important for your child's.  We are told that true education is closely tied to a personal relationship with Christ.  Throughout the year we will continue to pursue both academic and spiritual growth.
I view each child as unique.  With this understanding, I want to give your child a friendly and comfortable atmosphere to meet his/her individual style.  It is my desire to make learning a fun exploration through our world.
It is important that children become independent thinkers.  I want to challenge my students' thinking and teach them new ways to look at things.  I don't just want my students to learn facts; I want them to understand and explore them.
This school year is going to be an exciting adventure!  I believe that parental involvement is vital to that experience.  I strongly encourage you to participate in any capacity you can.  Our classroom is always open to you. Whether you want to join us on a regular basis, for field trips, or just to stop by; the class is always open!
To further open the ties between home and class you can expect to receive regular communication from me. Each week students will have folders of graded work along with grade up date so parents can stay well informed.  You will also receive a daily behavior report.  Parents are always welcome to scheule meetings or have informal conversations about student progress.  You can contact me at school, by email, or phone.

Sincerely,

Caitlin Cress
